31 days of summer

2025年8月の31日間、その日にふと目にとまった日常の風景を写真に収めること。すべてはこの個人的な営みから始まりました。
そうして撮影された31枚の画像から、純粋に「色」のみを抽出していくと、写真に写っていた特定の空間や具体的な物体の形は次第に消えてゆき、そこにあった複数の色の組み合わせと、その色彩を経験した日付だけが残ります。
しかし、ここにもう一つの重要な構成要素である「この作品を目にする人」が加わることで、作品は新たな意味を持ち始めます。提示されたある色の組み合わせは、見る人の心に潜む、それぞれ特有の感情や懐かしい思い出を鮮やかに想起させます。すると、同じ場所で同じ景色は見なかったけれど、かつてその色を経験した全ての人の記憶が、この一枚の作品のなかに引き寄せられ、結びつき始めるのです。
ここに、国境や時間を超えて人々の記憶を内包する「人類の共通日記」のような、抽象表現が秘める可能性を感じました。

For 31 days in August 2025, I photographed everyday scenes that happened to catch my eye. It all began with this personal endeavor.
When I extracted nothing but “color” from the 31 images I took, the specific spaces and concrete shapes of the objects in the photographs gradually faded away, leaving only the various combinations of colors and the dates on which I experienced them.
However, when another crucial element—the “viewer of this work”—is introduced, the work begins to take on new meaning. A particular combination of colors vividly evokes unique emotions and nostalgic memories latent in the viewer’s heart. Consequently, even though they may not have seen the same scenery in the same place, the memories of everyone who has ever experienced those colors are drawn into this single work and begin to intertwine.
Here, I sensed the potential inherent in abstract expression—a kind of “shared diary of humanity” that encompasses people’s memories across borders and time.
